The “Copy from File” plugin allows you to copy families, view templates, drafting views, legends, views, sheets, parameters, annotation types, and other elements from one open Revit document to another, as well as from linked models.
1. Click on the "Copy from file" plugin

2. Choose settings

1. Select the source model From the list of open documents, select the model from which the elements will be copied.
2. Select categoriesCheck the categories of elements that need to be copied.
3. Filter elementsIf you need to filter elements within the selected categories, click the Update button after setting the filters.
4. Select the target model Specify where the elements should be copied to. Available options:
To the current model;
To one of the open models;
To the list of models specified in an Excel file.
5. Working with multiple models or ExcelIf copying to multiple open models or to a list of models from Excel is selected, specify in the dialog that appears which models should be used for copying.
6. Selecting and configuring the Excel fileWhen working via Excel, select a pre-prepared document in .xlsx or .csv format.This section also includes a button to download an example Excel template.
Using this template, you can predefine workset names or filters so that unnecessary worksets are automatically closed when opening models.This significantly speeds up the copying process, especially when working with a large number of open files and linked models.
7. Additional settings

Click the ⚙️ button to open the advanced settings window.
7.1 Sheet copy settings
This section defines which types of elements will be copied together with the sheets. Select the required options:
Copy views — copies all views placed on the sheets.
Copy schedules — copies schedules placed on the sheets.
Copy title block — copies the title block family used on the sheet.
Copy text — copies all text annotations on the sheet.
Copy dimensions — copies all dimension lines associated with sheet elements.
If an option is not selected, the corresponding elements on the sheet will not be copied.
7.2 Family copy settings
This section controls the behavior when copying families that already exist in the target model:
Create a copy — creates a new copy of the family even if it already exists in the project.
Use this option when both versions of the family need to be preserved.
Replace with parameter replacement — updates the existing family and replaces all its parameters with those from the source model.
This option is useful when full synchronization of families between models is required.
Replace without parameter replacement — updates the family in the target model without changing its parameters.
This allows existing parameter values in the target model to be preserved.
7.3 Copy view templates
If view templates also need to be copied when copying views, enable this option.
8. Finish
After selecting all parameters, click Finish to start the copying process.
As a result, all selected elements will be copied into the currently open project.
